Lost City Teyuna – History of the site

In 1976 a Colombian government expedition guided, among others, by Franky Rey, an expert guide of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, reached Lost City Teyuna  starting from the city of Santa Marta, Magdalena, northern Colombia, just in time to save the archaelogical site from complete destruction due to the raids of the tombraiders.

Between 1972 and 1982, the government began to finance recovery, restoration and research on the site, apart from promoting the impressive Teyuna, which started to be called Lost City Teyuna (Ciudad Perdida Teyuna).
In 1984 guided tours started, since the tourists began to be aware of the existence of this incredible place.

The first guide of these tours to Lost City Teyuna was Mr. Franky Rey, from Santa Marta, who could count on the help of his son Edwin Rey,  Omar Triviño, Wilmer Piedrahita and others: today, they are part of our staff.
